The former Real Madrid and Brazil star Roberto Carlos has picked his Dream XI of footballers he played alongside and there was room for a midfielder that Premier League fans will be very familiar with.

Claude Makelele was so adept at his defensive midfield role that the position became named after him. Having played with Carlos at Madrid, it’s perhaps unsurprising that’s he’s been given the nod to do the donkey work in a team jam-packed with attacking talent.

Clearly no shrinking violet, Carlos picked himself at left-back and with Cafu bombing down the other flank, the former Chelsea midfielder Makelele would have his work set out covering for this lot.
