Mexican Premier League club Pachuca have released a study into which players in world football run fastest with the ball and features plenty of familiar names for fans of the English game.

Pachuca’s Jurgen Damm was second on the list (so that’s why they commissioned the study - self-interest) behind Real Madrid’s Welsh wizard Gareth Bale. The Premier League’s highest rated player was Manchester United’s Antonio Valencia in third place, clocking in at a nifty 35.1 km/hr.

Fourth on the list was Everton’s Aaron Lennon, who is currently on loan from Spurs. He ranked just ahead of former Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo, while Arsenal’s Theo Walcott is sixth, beating Lionel Messi into seventh. United fans might be surprised to learn that Wayne Rooney come in at a very useful eighth, to give the Premier League four players within the world’s top ten speed merchants. Here’s that list in full.

1. Gareth Bale: 36.9 km/h
2. Jürgen Damm: 35.23 km/h
3. Antonio Valencia: 35.1 km/h
4. Aaron Lennon: 33.8 km/h
5. Cristiano Ronaldo: 33.6 km/h
6. Theo Walcott: 32.7 km/h.
7. Lionel Messi: 32.5 km/h.
8. Wayne Rooney: 31.2 km/h.
9. Frank Ribéry: 30.7 km/h.
