The Football Mullets of Medellin
In the city of Medellin in Colombia, the mullet is not just a haircut. It is much, much more than that...
Those that have been stuck on a bus in Colombia for more than two hours will half understand the country’s anachronistic addiction to the mullet. Whether it is Steven Seagal, Chuck Norris or Jean Claude Van Damme, this is a country that likes a hero with a bad dose of Hockey Hair. But even the eight-hour ride from the Colombian capital of Bogotá cannot fully prepare you for the experience of arriving in Medellin on match day.
Whether you wear the red, blue and white of Deportivo Independiente de Medellin (DIM) or the green and white stripes of their more illustrious rivals, Atletico Nacional, you are nobody in the Estadio Atanasio Girardot if you don’t wear you hair ‘short on top and long at the back please’. On derby day both sides may be chanting for their team or abusing their bitter foes but they’re really singing from the same song sheet in the hair department and it may as well be the Vandals’ punk celebration of the mullet.
‘Clean me up but let me keep my edge
Make it short in front and long in back!
The front may conform to society
But the back says I have personality
I’ve got a Mullet, yes I do!’

In Argentina they call a mullet a 'rollinga' after the Rolling Stones.
It's not only for soccer, the paisas (people from Medellin / Antioquia) really think mullets are cool. Great collection of pics, I did my own article on the Mullets of Medellin but didn't get so many shots. http://www.expat-chronicles.com/2011/07/colas-the-mullets-of-medellin-2/
