Kane, I’m very glad you recognize that people have a right to engage in whatever work they want, but I think it’s just as important to understand that different people consider different work to be degrading. There are people who enjoy their work as garbage collectors, but would find stripping degrading, and vice versa. You are not the arbiter of dignity because everyone has their own standards of what is and is not dignified.

@Kane – Actually, the author of this article has every right to defend her work. How dare you come on here and “inform” her about her own damn job? You don’t want to “degrade yourself” (remember, what’s degrading for one person is sexy for another!) then I would recommend not getting into a line of work that you perceive as degrading. But don’t tell other people what their experiences are. That is beyond patronizing.

Stripping.. like prostitution… is a profession that you have every right to do, but no grounds to defend. We all want to earn good money, but that doesn’t mean we all are prepared to degrade ourselves to earn it. You are, good luck to you for that… but please do not ever try to convince yourself or anyone else that you are in control or that you are not degrading yourself in the process.
