I've been regularly walking past a house in Highbury, North London for a couple of months now and enjoying these pastel portraits of actors in character that appear in all the windows. I was never quite sure whether they were paint by numbers, deliberately slightly off the pace or the work of a budding artist improving their work and wanting an audience. I see them so often I've started to think about having him do a portrait of people I know for presents.

As exhibition space goes this has to be a better and cheaper idea than paying to get your work into a gallery no-one but your friends walks into. Hundreds of  people must walk past the window a day, it's about 200 metres North of Canonbury train station on Petherton Road. Last week someone told me the artist is a former actor and that a lot of the pictures are self portraits so today I stopped, took a few phone shots (sorry for the state of them)  and worked out the actor must be Lionel Wheeler, his IMDB entry tells me he's a fairly prolific TV supporting actor from the 70s who appeared in Fawlty Towers, Department S and The Avengers amongst many other programmes. Good luck to him we say, he brightens up our day.
