Trains are great. They go fast, they have sandwiches and if you have a strong stomach, there are potential toilet facilities. But that’s just the INSIDE of the train. Haven’t you considered the amazing potential of the OUTSIDE of a train?
No? Then you are obviously not a trainspotter. This brave band of men and women (but let’s face it, men) do understand the glory of the exterior of the train and want to celebrate it with the rest of the world. Or at least with people around them willing to listen.
In all weathers, in all seasons, they can be seen at the end of a station platform, excitement barely contained as they eagerly await the next locomotive to shunt into view. Then they note down the number with excitement in their special trainspotting pad, with their special trainspotting pens.
Why? Who knows, but it makes them happy. So let’s raise a toast to these exceptional British eccentrics and hope the 3.54 from Stevenage is right on time.
