Trawling this week's best new releases and uploads for pure dancefloor ammunition.
Joel Compass – Fucked Up (Huxley Remix)
“I’m so fucked up, and this girl won’t wake up” is definitely one of the most sinister hook lines I’ve heard in a house track for a while, but as soon as the boy Huxley adds his magic you soon forget the potentially murderous implications and just start dancing.
Lil Jabba – Maven
I’m a sucker for a bit of Juke. This is from Lil Jabba’s latest LP, Scales, on the brilliant Local Action. While he’s not from Chicago, he’s affiliated with the Teklife crew, making some of the most hypnotic footwork this side of the Windy City. A whole album of footwork might sound tiresome, but it works. Well worth checking out.
Will Saul presents CLOSE ft Joe Duke – My Way (Dusky Remix)
There’s so much talent involved with this it’s inevitable that the result is a banger. AUS label boss Will Saul teams up with Joe Dukie, in my eyes one of the finest vocalists of our generation, for this tune, which has been given a re-rub by Dusky. Straight up house burner.
Disclosure – When A Fire Starts to Burn
No matter what you say about Disclosure: chart whores, snotty kids, Daniel Beddingfield for the 21st Century, you can’t deny they’ve got a knack for it. Granted, nothing lately has come close to the days of ‘Whats In Your Head’ or ‘My Definition of War’, but this proves they’re not just interested in making songs for Hollyoaks these days.
Lee Webster – Strangerfuck
Hip-hop and house have always had an uneasy relationship. The heights of Chubb Rock’s – The Chubbster (Hard Haus mix) have never been equalled in my opinion, but as Lee Webster shows with this re-rub of Bow Wow’s hit, it should, and can work. This is available for free download via LW’s soundcloud.
