Back in 2011 Night Slugs, the London based bass-hybrid label started by Bok Bok and L-Vis1990, decided to set up across the pond. Together with US based producer Kingdom, Fade to Mind was born.

Since then, the imprint has taken the same boundary-pushing ethos which makes Night Slugs so highly regarded and created its own distinctive vibe. With a roster including Fatima al Qadiri, MikeQ, the catchily named nguzunguzu and of course the Night Slugs stable, the Fade to Mind sound is as much a feeling as anything musical. There's an unmistakable darkness threading through the beats, exploring the trails set by the likes of Terror Danjah and Timbaland and creating a new direction for themselves.

Label head Kingdom's track Bank Head featuring Kelela on vocals is still leading our office race for track of the year - with the honey dripped soulful vocals placed over a downbeat, dark track reminiscent of Tim and Aaliyah's best work, even early Keith Sweat productions like this one or Elite Records releases from the '80s. It's a beautiful juxtaposition, almost sinister in tone.
