He's long been touted as a prospect for the Premier League, but where is he likely to be running the middle third next season?

Quality central midfielders are hard to come by, and, according to the Mirror, it looks like Arsenal and Liverpool could be set for a duel over one of the brightest young talents in Europe.

Rubin Kazan’s French engine-stoker Yann M’Vila burst onto the scene with a series of eye-catching performances for Rennes a couple of seasons back, and even found himself plunged into the France squad under ex-Bleus boss Laurent Blanc.

But then it all went a little bit ZUT ALORS. A series of arguments, a two year national team ban for getting sozzled before a big game, and a truckload of criticism from his own supporters, saw him farmed out to the Russian Premier League for £9.6million in January last year.

Now - you’ll never guess what - he’s fallen foul of his boss at Rubin Kazan, Ribat Bilyaletdinov, who recently responded to speculation that his star might move to Liverpool by announcing that he doesn’t think the player is good enough for them. That’s proper reverse psychology, that.

Like a homework-laden and recently-pimpled teenager, M’Vila seems to spread hormone-soaked angst wherever he goes, but there’s no doubting that he is some talent, and if the right manager can get hold of him he has the potential to be right up there with the best of them.

With his Russian relations at an all-time low, it looks like the French international will be on his way sooner rather than later - but will he pitch up in London or Merseyside?

Liverpool have been linked to some good names, that is encouraging. City proved that it isn't always the best policy to buy on reputation though. The greater the "star power" the bigger the ego and wage bill.
