Chris Marker sat on the edge of the French New Wave, on the other side of the Seine to the likes of Godard and Truffaut, and yet, arguably his work in this period was equally if not more important.

La Jetée is a gorgeous collection of still frames arranged into a brilliant sci-fi narrative, a true illustration of what film can do. While 12 Monkeys is undoubtedly great, Marker’s original is simply one of the best films of the 20th century.  A true original, check it out.
