Tireless reinventors of the rucksack, Eastpak, have sourced some of the finest denim in the world for their latest capsule collection, proving that selvedge denim is not just reserved for your clothes.
Split into two parts, the collection is a celebration of the finest Japanese denim on the market, demonstrating both the hardwearing capacity of the material and the craftsmanship that goes into producing it.
Based on the iconic Padded Pak’r backpack, the Boro rucksack is one of Eastpak’s most limited edition releases ever, with only 5 on sale globally. Crafted from one of the rarest denims in the world, boro is a patchwork of ancient pieces of the material (some over a hundred years old), painstakingly embroidered together by hand using a technique that’s been passed down through generations of Japanese experts. The only one available in the UK is at Selfridges, and is priced for serious collectors only, at £800.
If something a little more practical (and indeed affordable) is more your taste, then the Kuroki line might be more up your street. Priced at £115 per bag, it’s a collaboration with one of Japan’s best selvedge denim manufacturers, Kuroki. Available in 2 different washes, the selvedge has been specially-selected for Eastpak, and every bag is finished with a Japanese koi carp-printed lining.
