Carrying on from where we left off, the sun's well and truly gone now, the clocks go back soon, it's dark on the way out in the morning and it's dark on the way home in the evening. There's leaves and conkers on the floor and the local scallywags are letting off fireworks too. It's that time of year already folks! Winter's on the way and it's time for some extra needed layers.
Where better to look than Howlin' by Morrison, a somewhat 'new' knitwear brand based in Antwerp. The Morrison brand started back in 1981 with the intentions of bringing classic knitwear to the European market. Howlin' takes it's name from the Scottish slang for smelly, which is pretty appropriate as most of their collection is still handmade north of Hadrian's Wall.
It's good old fashioned nerdy chic which puts me in mind of 60's American backpackers on the Yosemite trail and dressed down psychedelic football scals.
The second generation of the Morrison clan have continued with the brand but given it a more modern and fresh outlook - yet keeping the traditional roots and philosophy. Tinged with irony and fantasy and of course more than a nod and a wink to David Lynch's cult television series. Any label who reference the likes of Twin Peaks in their garments get the thumbs up from me.
With cardigans, pullovers, sweaters and accessories in an array of nice colours and fairisle patterns with names like Chris, Gavin and Brian. They've upped the ante in classic knitwear sitting somewhere between Geography teachers and Fishermen, it's good old fashioned nerdy chic which puts me in mind of 60's American backpackers on the Yosemite trail and dressed down psychedelic football scals.
I reckon it's one of the best selections of winter warmers you're likely to see all year.
