Are you thinking what I'm thinking...

Amsterdam Hilton, Room 702

Recreate John and Oko’s 1969 “bed-in”. There have been changes since the original slumber party: the room has been renumbered (from 902 to 702) and themed as the “John & Yoko Suite” with pictures of the couple and prints of their original protest signs (“Hair Peace”). It’s just 15 minutes from Schiphol airport, has an award-winning Italian restaurant and a health club, too – Just in case you do leave your room.

The Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Roof Garden, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York

Open from May till October, the Met’s roof garden is 10,000 square feet (3048 square metres) of decked gardens, Yew trees, Wisteria and sculpture overlooking Central Park, with a perfect view of the Manhattan skyline. For those that need an extra reason to visit, there’s a cafe too.

Niagara Falls, Canada

Scientists tell us that negative ions boosts our brain’s serotonin levels, making us feel happier, more relaxed, more attracted to one another and less likely to get annoyed. The particles are released into the air around water, so take a trip on The Maid of the Mist (April – October) out to the Falls, where 150,000 gallons of water falls every second.

Aphrodite’s Rock, Cyprus

The Greek Goddess of Love, Aphrodite, was born out of the foaming water around the base of a rock on the beach just outside Paphos, western Cyprus. According to legend, the rock is now blessed with the qualities of love and fertility.

Lyme Park, Stockport, UK

This National Trust park on the edge of the Peak District is home to Lyme Hall – a beautiful 18th century Italianate palace – but more memorably is where Colin Firth (playing Mr Darcy) emerged from the lake, brooding and drenched, in the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, in the most romantic movie-scene ever.

Venice

A Gondola ride is one of the most romantic things you can do in your life, ever, if you go at dusk, bring champagne, and forget the Cornettos. Venice is less crowded, noisy and (I hate to say it) smelly off-season, so aim to travel April or October.

The Eiffel Tower, Hotel Plaza Athenee, Paris

The Eiffel Tower is a must-visit, even if you just visit the 58 Tour Eiffel restaurant on the first floor for l’aperitifs. Embrace the moment by taking a horse-drawn carriage ride up the Champs-Elysses. To finish, stay at the five-star Hotel Plaza Athenee, where Carrie and Mr Big finally came together in “An American Girl in Paris, Part Deux”, the last episode of Sex & The City. L’amour!
