I agree with this, Graeme Souness has commented in the past how he prefers to work on RTE coverage rather than English coverage, as you're encouraged to speak your mind and be prickly, rather than constantly bigging up the product.

With all due respect, I find that the UK channels tend to veer away from very strong opinions on players and games especially when it comes to the England side. It almost seems like they fear the FA's, managers and players reaction to being judged objectively. Chiles and lineaker never play devils advocate to illicit any insight from their panel. Luckily for me I get to watch Ireland's RTE coverage. A great panel well marshalled by Bill O'Herlihy, who is never afraid to ask awkward or sometimes stupid questions in order to get his experts honest and revealing opinions on all aspects of the games, tactics, technical execution, physical and mental. Even my English cousins agree with me that there's more insight in the Irish coverage. Neville is very good at this in the UK but Richard Sadllier and Kenny Cunnigham have been doing this here in Blarney for several years. Liam Brady, Eamon Dunphy and Johnny Giles are the senior panel to which has been added Didi Haman. All in all I won't be bothered channel hopping this year.
