AFC Wimbledon Preview: Play With Some Heart And Get Back To Plough Lane

It's an exciting new season, and with the news that AFC are planning a move back to their original home things are looking up for the South London boys...

They're back on their way to Plough Lane, but what does the season ahead hold for AFC Wimbledon?

Pre season: Good, bad or ugly?
Been to two matches; we lost 7-0 to Reading and I lost an afternoon after matches each goal with a San Miguel in the bar. Second one we lost to West Ham's development squad (albeit one that featured Frédéric Piquionne who looked rather tasty) and although I saw some new players looking handy I saw a few that worried me. This much I know, pre-season means nothing whatsoever in the grand scheme and all I really learnt was that San Miguel is the Spanish Stella (señorita beater).

Hopes for the season:
Not get home too late after each home game (mental note switch to cooking lager every other match). Do better than last season or at least spread the good results more rather than the previous icarus season. Play with a bit more spirit and spite when required (getting rolled by the bigger boys is not how we ought to do things).

Fears for the season:
Getting home late too many times after home matches. Tippy tappy death trap 4-3-3 nosedive to oblivion.

Absolute bare minimum you’ll accept
Playing with a bit of heart.

Fixture you’re most looking forward to?
Wycombe Wanderers away, it's been a while since we went there.  (Accrington or Rochdale away will be "birthday away day jolly" so I expect one of those two to go down as a mighty day out.)

Got the right manager?
Can I get back to you after 8 matches please?

By Christmas you’ll be…
Sick of Christmas.

Player you’d most like to sign?
Frédéric Piquionne.

Which player should we look out for?
Pim Balkenstein is our "we need a beast at the back" big signing but I expect former Wolves player Louis Harris to grab some attention.

Which player would you love to ditch?
We ditched over 10 of the squad at the end of last season, it pretty much took care of things like that...

Opposition hate figure?
Steve Evans has thankfully fucked off, we'll have to make do with anyone connected to either "that lot" or Crawley.

Tell us something we don’t know about your club?
Bruce Foxton will be playing a gig on his birthday in our bar after the home match v Dagenham & Redbridge.

What won’t happen this season?
We won't win the league.

Favourite chant?
Show me the way to Plough Lane.

Where will you finish?
Anything higher than mid table will feel like progress.

Any other news?
We've announced our intention to return to Plough Lane 100 years since we started playing there and 21 years since we last did. Fuck yeah.
