Arsenal: Is £16mil For Calum Chambers A Good Deal?
Bacary Sagna was a loyal servant and a model of consistency since joining Arsenal in 2007 but his move to Man City had left Arsenal with a considerable hole to fill.
Step forward Calum Chambers. The Saints 19-year-old has impressed since breaking into the first team last season and, in fact, his rise has been so sudden there's not actually a YouTube compilation of his best bits yet, though it's surely only a matter of time before he gets the dodgy Europop treatment.
The England Under-19 captain has only made 25 Premier League appearances, but he's impressed with his quality on the ball and aerial prowess. Sagna had seemingly never lost a header in his life, so he'd have some pretty big boots to fill.
Some may balk at the price-tag but dude's talent is obvious and at nineteen, the guy could have another ten years of top flight football in him. That sounds like a pretty good deal to us, even if the English premium is very much In Effect.
Would Chambers be a good replacement for Sagna or should Arsenal go for more experience?
