Gonzalo Higuain has asked to leave Napoli and Arsenal are ready to offer €60m (£43m) for his services, according to Calciomercato.web.
Higuain is no longer happy at Napoli and would like to be playing Champions League football. However, he has to convince controversial chairman De Laurentiis to sell him for less than his release clause, which is a staggering €94.7m.
Arsenal were close to signing Higuain before he joined Napoli, but Real Madrid moved the goalposts at the last minute with regards to a fee. The Gunners may well still be admirers, but the £43m mooted may be better spent.
One example of a more likely striker target for Arsenal is Real Madrid's Karim Benzema. If he becomes available before the end of the window, there's no doubt that Arsène Wenger, a long-term admirer, will make a move.
