Arsenal were heavily linked to Julian Draxler in January 2014, but what seemed serious interest never materialised. Now, according to the Express, the Gunners are lining up a £30m bid for the highly rated 21-year-old.
Arsenal are determined to beat off competition from Chelsea and Manchester United, who are also monitoring the young German.
Having failed to impress at the World Cup, Draxler remained at Schalke for another season, developing himself steadily, rather than rushing into a big move. He's had an injury-hit campaign and his frustration may push him to help force a move through.
Draxler suits Arsenal very well indeed. Being a fast, creative and technically gifted player with the potential to play as a central striker as well as a winger, he'd be a valuable asset for the Gunners.
Arsene Wenger said earlier in the week that he'd only add 'world class players' to the squad and Draxler certainly fits the bill. The move makes sense and Arsenal are willing to outgun their rivals, but will it happen?
