Arsenal: Wenger Wants To Bolster Midfield With £16Million Everton Man
According to the Mail On Sunday Arsenal have identified Everton's Irish midfielder James McCarthy as a ready-made midfield signing. Arsene Wenger and his scouting network have been impressed by McCarthy's consistently good performances this season.
Arsenal need a player who can slot into the Arteta role and command the base of their midfield. 24-year-old MacCarthy is more than capable of controlling a game via dictating tempo as well as having an added energy and physicality that Arsenal fans have called for ever since Alex Song left the club (and even before that).
However, Everton won't make any potential purchase for Arsenal as they try and deter interest from other top clubs for a number of players including Seamus Coleman and Ross Barkley. McCarthy would be a typically clever piece of business if Arsenal do manage to secure his services. The £16million figure seems good value for a Premier League proven midfield general and Arsenal's notoriously shrewd negotiators will be hoping Everton don't bump up the price between now and January.
