Brazil Expert: Bruno Gomes Could Be Man United's Next Van Nistelrooy

Bruno Gomes is just 17, but he already has that elegance only great centre-forwards show on the pitch. He is slender, powerful and skilful but only time will tell if he will be a truly great footballer, but his form so far certainly explains why Sir Alex Ferguson wanted him at Manchester United. For all of Manchester United's effort, though, he could still end up at Real Madrid, Udinese or Sao Paulo, though.

Gomes was the top goalscorer in Sao Paulo state U-15 in 2011 and when he moved to the U-17 team, he scored 28 goals in two years and was Desportivo Brasil's top striker for two successive seasons. Not even Neymar matched that in the youth divisions. That is what made Ferguson bring the kid to Manchester for a trial. David Moyes, however...

He is 1.81 m tall and weighs 73 kg, a profile that fits well with players that are high enough to score from headers and still are flexible to play on the wings. Gomes is an elegant finisher and has already said Man United is his first choice for a transfer - which is not so common in Brazil. Barça and Madrid are far more popular here with the fates of much feted Brazilians Kleberson and Anderson probably doing little for United's reputation.

Gomes needs more time to strengthen up and fulfil his Premier League football potential, but there is little doubt he could be a worthy investment. He would need at least one year or two before being fit for the Red Devils, but there is a player that could well be the next Van Nistelrooy: elegant and deadly.
