Can Spurs Beat Arsenal To Sign Southampton's Lovren?
Tottenham and Arsenal are set to battle it out for the signature of Croatian centre-half Dejan Lovren, as Southampton's clear-out continues apace. With rumours circling that Lovren had handed in a transfer-request to the south-coast club earlier last week, Arsene Wenger and Mauricio Pochettino have stepped up their pursuit, with Liverpool's interest seeming to tail off.
Wenger's reported transfer fund of £100 million has a portion set aside to secure experienced defenders, and Pochettino has Tottenham's usual laissez-faire attitude towards capturing new signings to work with. With Luke Shaw now at Old Trafford and Adam Lallana all-but-signed for Liverpool, Southampton will be keen to get any business done quickly to allow them to rebuild a squad that has been stripped bare this summer. Elsewhere Arsenal seem keen on bringing two new strikers in, whilst Tottenham are still looking to recapture an attacking flair that has been absent since the departure of Gareth Bale last summer.
