Chelsea have endured their worst start to a league campaign since 1988, and the worst start to a season by defending champions since Blackburn Rovers in 1995. Jose Mourinho has said that the team are not playing well enough, and are not up to his usual high standards, while an experienced Chelsea player has also had his say.

Branislav Ivanovic has been a mainstay at Chelsea for several years, and admits they need to "Wake up" but he also says they are not playing as badly as the results suggest, "I think at the moment we are being punished for all our mistakes. The only way we can change is to work hard and be ready for the next game, so it is like a final and we have to play like a final."

Chelsea succumbed to a 3-1 defeat at Everton and lie in 17th place with 4 points from their opening 5 games. They will be hoping for a change in fortunes as they play their opening Champions League group game against Maccabi Tel Aviv on Wednesday looking for a positive result to build on.

Ivanovic finished, "The next game is very important for us. It is a new competition and it is time to change all this situation. I hope we will start winning the games soon."
