Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho has been one of Europe's hottest properties for several years after emerging in the Portuguese side as a teenager. He was recently named player of the tournament as Portugal reached the final of the U21 European Championships.

Carvalho is highly thought of by several clubs, and a move to England might not be far off, according to the metro, (via Tutto Mercato Web). Arsenal were the favourites for his signature, but the allure of Jose Mourinho and playing for the Premier League champions might convince him to join the blues.

Liverpool retain an interest in the midfielder, but Champions League football may influence his decision should he move in January, the defensive midfielder may fill a hole in the Liverpool squad though. With Lucas Leiva staying at Anfield despite being on the verge of exiting, it signals that Brendan Rodgers has a weakness in that area of the pitch, and could look to Carvalho to fill it.

However, Mourinho has good links with Portugal, being Portuguese himself, and managing there for several years, speaking the language would help to integrate the midfielder and could be a factor in his decision.
