Chelsea's indifferent start to the season, particularly from a defensive point of view, after failing to secure the services of Everton and England defender John Stones, has led them to explore their options ahead of the January transfer window.
One of those options is Marseille and Cameroon central defender Nicolas N'Koulou, who could be available in January according to TalkSport via L'Equipe and widespread reports in France: http://bit.ly/1Lw9Ana
N'Koulou could be purchased at a reduced price as his contract expires next summer, and he is yet to agree a new deal. Marseille are reportedly looking to recoup in the region of £7 million and are keen to sell, but would rather not sell to any Ligue 1 rivals, meaning Chelsea have a good chance of securing his services.
N'Koulou is 25 years old and has been linked with Arsenal in the past, but with Chelsea's lack of depth in defence and the ageing Terry and Ivanovic, Mourinho is on the lookout for new talent to bolster his options.
