Chelsea's Goal Machine Admits He Nearly Joined Liverpool

Chelsea's top scorer Diego Costa has admitted that he nearly joined Liverpool in 2013. Costa told the Sunday People that he was close to leaving Atletico for Merseyside, but opted to stay and continue developing.

"I was close to leaving Atletico." said Costa.

"Liverpool are a great team, but after fighting so hard and overcoming difficulties to get my place at Atletico, how could I leave?

“I thought it was very important to keep growing with Atletico and to play there for many years.”

It's understood that Liverpool activated Costa's then £21million release clause in 2013, but failed to persuade the player to leave the Madrid club. With 17 Premier League goals already this season for Chelsea, he surely would've been a quality addition and softened the Suarez blow, or even helped preventing the Uruguayan from leaving. Alas, it wasn't to be and Diego Costa will forever be Brendan Rodgers' 'one that got away'.
