With both Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor linked with moves away from Spurs, the club are in need of at least one striker to provide competition for Harry Kane this season.

Two bits of news today will reassure Tottenham fans that a deal could be in the offing. The first is the fact that West Brom have made a £15m move for the Zenit striker Salomon Rondon. With the Baggies having already signed Rickie Lambert from Liverpool this summer, the purchase of Rondon would seemingly pave the way for Saido Berahino to make his long-rumoured transfer to Spurs.

The second bit of news that adds weight to this argument came when Tottenham announced their squad numbers today. Harry Kane has now taken the number 10 shirt, leaving his old shirt number of 18 free.

And what number does Berahino wear? 18.
