With Raheem Sterling linked with a £50m move to Manchester City and Manchester United readying a £40m bid for Harry Kane, young English talent is both in demand and expensive this summer.

One former England star who thinks that these prices are unrealistic is Rio Ferdinand, who had this to say earlier today on Twitter.

Plenty of Ferdinand’s followers pointed out that the defender was himself transferred for over £30m way back in 2002, but Rio was quick to defend himself.

So is Ferdinand right and would the Manchester giants be mad to spend so much on relatively proven talent? Or is it worth paying a premium to land the best English players?
