Manchester United showed significant interest in Brazil and Barcelona star Neymar Jr. during the summer, as well as other high profile transfer targets including Thomas Muller and Sergio Ramos.
Barcelona warded off interest in the striker, but look set to tie him down to a lucrative contract that would ensure it would take a stupendous fee to prize him from the Nou Camp, according to the telegraph: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/players/neymar/11846243/Neymar-to-be-handed-150million-contract-by-Barcelona-to-ward-off-Man-Utd-interest.html
Man United had hoped to bring in a high profile striker for much of the summer, and in the end they got their man in young French striker Anthony Martial, for a £36 million fee, rising to £60 million with potential add ons. Martial is someone with potential, and made his France debut days after signing for the Red Devils, and represents a different approach to the moves for Muller and Neymar.
Neymar could earn an eye watering £500,000 per week, making him the second highest paid player in world football, behind his team mate Lionel Messi. Negotiations are set to begin in December for a deal that would tie down a player that is invaluable to Barcelona, and the 6 year deal will be worth a stunning £150 million in total.
