The general election has been nothing if not a useful exercise for highlighting how self-absorbed and daft professional footballers can be.

When you're a mult-millionaire who has earned a fortune in a working class sport, it's probably best to keep any pro-Tory thoughts to yourself. Yet that hasn't stopped the likes of Sol Campbell and Karl Henry from nailing ther Conservative colours to the mast.

The latest footballer to follow this trend is the Stoke and Republic of Ireland international Jon Walters, who tweeted the following and received a barrage of abuse.

But he still wasn't finished...

Perhaps he could stand in place of Esther McVey for the Tories in five years time? He certainly won't be playing in the Premier League.
