Is Wenger Set To Bring This Former Gunner Back To Arsenal?
Arsenal fans might be desperate for the return of Cesc Fabregas, but they could be about to see another former Gunner at the Emirates. The Daily Mail reports that Carlos Vela is set to rejoin Arsenal for just £3.5m, thanks to a handy buy-back clause.
The Sociedad president has been in London for talks with Arsenal this week, and said: ‘Arsenal have informed us that Vela would be with them next season.’
Things didn't really work out for the former Football Manager hero during his first spell at Arsenal, and other than a few glorious lobs, he didn't made much of an impact on the first team. He's matured during his time at Real Sociedad though, and he's now a lively creative forward, who chips in with plenty of goals and assists.
The deal would be outrageously good value - the only players that have scored more La Liga goals than Vela since the 2012/13 season are Leo Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Diego Costa, and there's no chance Arsenal are going to sign any of those players. It's even more impressive when you consider he's not playing for one of the Spanish giants either.
He's comfortable playing on either wing, behind a main striker, or up front himself, so his arrival would give Arsene Wenger plenty of options. Signing the Mexican might not be as spectacular as the return of Cesc would be, but it would be a very smart signing.
Would Gooners be happy to see Vela return to the club?
