Javier Pastore: Could Chelsea's Argie Heartbreaker Be Liverpool-Bound?
It was a moment of individual genius which saw PSG's Javier Pastore round not one, but two, Chelsea defenders and slot the ball past a desperate Petr Cech in the dying moments of last night's Champions League quarter final first leg - but if Liverpool have their way, we might be seeing much more of the player very soon.
The Reds have long been linked with a move for the Argentinian 'Enganche' - since way way back in the August transfer window, in fact - and their recent domestic success might provide the opportunity for them to splash out and secure his signature this summer.
Despite a big money move to the City of Love, Pastore has failed to make an impact on a regular basis - and could well be looking for a new challenge. He certainly wouldn't be averse to a move across the challenge.
Indeed, a fresh start at Anfield would give the ex-Palermo man a chance to deliver those glimpses of genius more consistently, and Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is well-known to be a big admirer of the player, apparently even toying with the idea of tabling a £17 million bid back in January.
With the World Cup on the horizon, Pastore will be keen to stake a claim for a starting berth in Alejandro Sabella's XI, especially after only being used sparingly during the last tournament in South Africa - but he is finding opportunities at the Parc des Princes hard to come by, and that is likely to unsettle him.
