Jeremy Mathieu: The Man Who Could Replace Vertonghen for Spurs

With Jan Vertonghen continuing to attract admiring glances from around Europe and Michael Dawson running like he's stuck in slow motion, Spurs could be in the market for a centre-back this summer, and Valenica's Jeremy Mathieu could be their man.

The 30-year-old French international is classy on the ball and can play at centre-back or left-back, giving vital options to whoever is managing Spurs next year and also reducing the chances of Kyle Naughton ever getting a game.

The Daily Star reports that the club are drawing up a list of candidates to potentially replace Vertonghen, and Mathieu is right at the top. Spurs have been tracking him all season and reports suggest that he has a release clause of £17 million, though Daniel Levy will be no doubt drag the deal out until deadline day to knock a tenner off the fee.

If Vertonghen does go, would Spurs fans be happy with Mathieu coming in?
