Klopp’s Rodgers Criticism Shows How He’d Use Liverpool Transfer Target

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Nuri Sahin and an old quote from Jurgen Klopp reveals exactly where he'd play the Turkish international.

Sahin made his name under Klopp at Borussia Dortmund before making an ill-fated move to Real Madrid. In 2012 Sahin moved on loan to Liverpool, where he struggled to make an impression under Brendan Rodgers.

By 2013 the midfield schemer has moved back to Dortmund, where Klopp had this to say about how Rodgers had used Sahin at Liverpool.

“It was the wrong position.

“If you are a No. 8 or 6 and you have to as a No. 9 or 10 – it’s not possible.

“For some guys of course it’s possible, but Nuri’s a brilliant player – not nine-and-a-half and not 10 – and I don’t know why Brendan Rodgers would do this.”

So there you have it. If Sahin moves back to Liverpool, expect him to be pulling the strings from a deep-lying midfield position.
