Liverpool: Why This Ex-Arsenal Midfielder Could Be A Quality Signing
Liverpool's Joe Allen was yesterday linked with a move to Manchester and it might seem that the wheels are already in motion for his replacement, all be it one in a totally different form.
According to the Guardian, Liverpool may well be closing in on out-of-favour Barça midfielder Alex Song. The ex-Arsenal 26-year-old also told French TV channel beIN Sport last month that he wants to return to the Greatest League in the World™. He said: "If I leave Barcelona it will be to return to the Premier League. I will return to England one day, that's for sure."
He's got a huge physical presence, is neat on the ball, and, despite the odd brain freeze, pretty ace at guarding the defence. He would also prove a great foil for Sturridge, especially if he could resume the FIFA-esque lofted through balls that made him such a hit in his final season at Arsenal.
He probably wouldn't be a starter but he'd likely be dead cheap and is a more than (WAY MORE THAN) adequate back-up.
Liverpool fans: would you want Song in your side?
