Following on from David De Gea's new contract, and with much talk about Van Gaal and his future at Manchester United, the Daily Star is reporting that he is set for talks in the new year about a new contract:

The Man United boss's current contract expires in 2017, but he is keen to extend his stay beyond that date, particularly with his purchases of young players such as Memphis, Martial and Herrera last season. He has brought Champions League football back to Old Trafford this season and the Glazer family will be expecting United to make the step up towards the automatic qualifying spaces this year, and their 3-1 win over Liverpool asserted their intention to do so.

Van Gaal has had a mixed response in his tenure so far, with some people, including Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville, criticising the style of play sometimes operated by the Red Devils. But Van Gaal has so far achieved his objectives, and has a good working relationship with CEO Ed Woodward, and admitted that him and his wife are loving living in Cheshire.

Van Gaal also admitted that United legend and assistant manager Ryan Giggs, would be the likely successor to him when he eventually leaves Old Trafford, which is sure to please the Old Trafford faithful.
