Manchester United are closing in on young starlet Mason Holgate, after the player's current manager has publicly conceded to losing the player this summer, according to the Daily Star.
The 18 year old Holgate spent three days on trial at Carrington and has obviously suitably impressed the United coaches, who have encouraged a deal for the youngster.
Right-back Holgate has previously been scouted by Arsenal and Swansea also showed a keen interest, but it seems that it's United are on the verge of completing a deal. Newcastle have also expressed interest.
Barnsley manager Lee Johnson told the Sheffield Star “There’s been a lot of interest in Mason and, at this stage it looks like we’re destined to lose him".
Holgate played 20 times for Barnsley last season, but will have to wait until he gets his first senior United appearance. He'll play for the youth teams until he proves himself worthy of the big stage.
