According to The Guardian, Man Utd are ready to make a move for Croatian striker Mari Mandzukic, who has fallen out of favour with the Spanish side's coach Diego Simeone after a poor run of form. The Mail Online are also reporting that the Spanish club have offered the player to United.

Mandzukic initially did a solid job of replacing Diego Costa at Atletico, after helping Bayern win the treble the year previous. He'd already bagged 20 goals by February this season, but a downturn in form and some reported behind-the-scenes problems with coaching staff have lead to Ateltico wanting rid.

Van Gaal will be looking for some much-needed fire power up front if he is to challenge for the title next season, and guaranteed goals at a reasonable price makes Mandzukic seem like an attractive prospect, especially with Van Persie looking likely to move abroad in the next few months.
