Manchester City's Dzeko And The Top 20 Strikers in Europe Today, Part One...

20. Olivier Giroud

Many Arsenal fans still don’t rate him, but the stats show that Giroud is a real dark horse. 17 goals and 11 assists last season was actually quite a decent haul for the Frenchman, and 3 in 3 so far this season is even more impressive.

19. Giuseppe Rossi

Rossi’s career has been plagued with injury problems, but at Fiorentina he seems to have finally found a club that lets him play to his full potential. Has already scored 3 in 2 League games this season, receiving standing ovations from the fans in Firenze.

18. Daniel Sturridge

With Rooney in and out of the Man U team, and Welbeck scoring a spectacular 1 league goal in 27 last season, Sturridge is the only Englishman who can currently stake a claim for being on this list. After being a loose end at Chelsea and Man City, the poacher has rapidly become Liverpool's biggest asset, with 13 in 17 since he joined in January.

17. Stefan Kiessling

It may come as a surprise to many that the Bundesliga’s top scorer last season was not Lewandovski, Gomez or Mandzukic, but Stefan Kiesling. The Leverkusen striker is a top class poacher, and only his all round game prevents him from being higher in this list.

16. Gonzalo Higuain

Let go from Real after a few seasons of being competent without really ever impressing, Higuain will be hoping to solidify his status as one of Europe’s best strikers this season. A tally of over 100 goals at Real is hardly shabby, but it remains to be seen if he can push on under Benitez at new club Napoli.

15. Roberto Soldado

Not the most flashy player on this list, Soldado’s ability to calmly score 20+ goals a season pretty much anywhere he goes is a testament to his footballing intelligence and brilliant work ethic. Unlike many strikers, Soldado is also a natural leader on the pitch.

14. Edin Dzeko

Often lamentably underused at Man City, winning a shock Bundesliga title for Wolfsburg still stands as Dzeko’s crowning achievement. New manager Pellegrini trusts Dzeko more than Mancini did however, and this could signal a fresh chance for the skillful target man.

13. Carlos Tevez

After a difficult couple of years at City, Carlos Tevez is looking to rejuvenate his career at Italian Champions Juventus. On paper it’s a match made in heaven, as it’s no secret that Juve have lacked world class striking options of late and his late goal won the Old Lady's first match of the season against Sampdoria.

12. Jackson Martinez

Porto’s young star deserves a place on this list on form alone. He scored 30 goals in his first season in Portugal, and has bagged another 3 in 3 since then.

11. Mario Balotelli

In terms of characters they don’t come much bigger than Mario Balotelli. Many doubted he would have the temperament to shine at AC Milan but he has more than proven his critics wrong, becoming the new hero of the Rossoneri.
