Matthias Ginter: Why Manchester United Should Build Their Defence Around German Wonderkid
Sky Sports report that David Moyes could be set to bring in German wunderkind Matthias Ginter after personally watching the young centre-back last week.
With the experienced (past it) trio of Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra all potentially leaving United at the end of the season, the club are in the market for a few defenders.
Ginter has starred for Freiburg this season, with his composure and confident passing particularly catching the eye. In 28 appearances, he's only picked up one yellow card, an outstanding return for a centre back, especially for one so young. At 6'2", he won't be fazed by an aerial onslaught at Stoke either.
The sharks are already circling Ginter who, apart from have a brilliantly German name, also has Bayern and Dortmund knocking at his door (not literally but maybe literally).
The twenty-year-old only has one more season left on his Freiberg contract so he'll still cost a pretty penny, but he'd be worth it: Johnny Evans is a solid defender, but Phil Jones and Chris Smalling have yet to truly convince as centre backs.
