Manchester United have all but completed the signing of Argentinian free-agent Sergio Romero, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The 28-year-old goalkeeper is Argentina's number one, helping them to the Copa America final earlier in the summer and the World Cup final the summer before. Romero spent last season running down his contract at Sampdoria in Serie A, but is now ready for a new challenge.

Both Roma and Inter Milan were reportedly after Romero, but Manchester United's pay-package was just too attractive. He'll be earning €1.8m net per-year.

Romero is being brought in to replace Victor Valdes, whose clash with Louis van Gaal has cost him his place in United's squad. Here's the Argentine in action...
