Sky have claimed that Southampton have struck a deal to sign the Malaga forward Juanmi.

The Spanish international is said to have a £5.1m buyout clause in his contract, which was met by the Saints on Sunday. The player is now in England and ready to take a medical.

Juanmi made his debut for Spain this year having had an impressive season for Malaga. The 22-year old initially struggled to get playing time at La Rosaleda as the club spent big on more established players, but made his breakthrough this season.

In all the 5ft 6” attacker scored eight goals in 34 appearances last season, attracting interest from Liverpool, Newcastle and West Ham. It says much about Southampton’s progress that they were able to land their target, with other options available to the player.

Saints fans, here’s Juanmi in action.
