Colombian striker to Newcastle United? I'm sure we've all been here before...

All is not well and good at Newcastle United at present. Fans and the local press alike are waging civil war on the clubs hierarchy and manager, but a well timed signing could se some of that pressure eased.

Newcastle once played home to a fantastic Colombian centre-forward, and if you’ve got your ear to the ground, you may have heard that they may well be doing so again soon, too. Following in the footsteps of the legendary Faustino Asprilla, 24-year-old Cagliari forward Víctor Ibarbo could soon be joining the club.

Young, athletic, quick and with an eye for goal, he sounds like everything Newcastle need going in to the new season. On loan striker Loïc Rémy was their only outlet for the majority of last season with Luuk de Jong and Papiss Cissê failing to make an impression, so Ibarbo would be going straight in to the Newcastle side.

He’s not prolific, having only scored 4 goals in 31 appearances in all competitions last season, but he’s young enough to improve, and Newcastle are in no position to be turning down viable striking solutions with their only remaining senior recognised striker, Cissé, injured for the foreseeable future.
