According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle United have dropped interest in Charlie Austin and are set to make a move for another Championship goalscorer.

Former Arsenal Striker Benik Afobe, now playing for Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Championship is the subject of their attention, but prising him from Molineux could prove to be tricky. The 22 year old signed for Wolves back in January for around £2 million from Arsenal after impressing on loan at MK Dons, and Wolves boss Kenny Jackett has publicly stated they will not be selling Afobe after 2 bids from Norwich City.

Any deal for Afobe would be dependent on Papiss Cisse and whether he moves on during the final throes of the transfer window. The deal could cost upwards of £10 million as a reluctant Wolves have already turned down bids in the region of £10 million from Norwich City, and don't want to lose another key player after Bakary Sako's departure for Crystal Palace on a free transfer.

Magpies Head Coach Steve McClaren knows Afobe from managing Derby against him in the Championship last season, and his deadly form in front of goal made a lot of headlines. With spells at MK Dons and Wolves, Afobe hit 32 goals in all competitions last season, just pipping Harry Kane as England's top goalscorer in all 4 divisions.
