The autobiography of Luis Suarez has revealed an amazing tactic employed by the sacked Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers during the 2013-14 season.

As Liverpool competed for the title, Rodgers used an unconventional method to inspire his team. The Northern Irish coach contacted each of his players' mothers and asked them to write something about their son.

Rodgers then used these messages as part of his pre-match team-talks, reading one out before every game. As Suarez describes: "The final word came not from the manager but a player's mum."
