Shock Statistics Show Man Utd Legend Was Right To Blast Van Gaal

Boring, boring United...

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes tore into his old side this week, claiming that there was "a lack of creativity and risk" under the leadership of Louis van Gaal.

Van Gaal disagreed with Scholes' comments in his press conference today but some shocking stats from Sky Sports News reveal that the former England midfielder's claims are accurate.

While LVG's possession-based tactics see them ranked top for average percentage of possession in the Premier League, they also score highly in two less desirable categories. United make more backwards passes than any other club and are second in sideways balls.

The stats gets worse, with Van Gaal's team ranked 18th for the amount of shots and rock bottom for both passes-per-shot and passes-per-chances-created.

It's a far cry from the days when Scholes was in his pomp in Manchester United's swashbuckling side...
