Southampton Legend Le Tissier: Roy Right To Choose Shaw Over Chelsea's Cole
Matthew Le Tissier, chunky genius of volleys and beer-swilling, took time out from making excitable comments on the tele to make some excitable comments online instead about Roy Hodgson's decision to pick Saints' Luke Shaw over full-back/boogeyman Ashley Cole for England's upcoming fixtures.
Writing in a blog on Sportlobster, Le Tissier said: “By picking Shaw, it is a clue to how Roy Hodgson is thinking. I think if Cole doesn’t play regularly for Chelsea from now until the end of the season, Shaw has a great chance to make the World Cup team.
“I would definitely take Shaw instead of Cole, if the Chelsea defender isn’t playing for his club.”
It's hard to argue with the guy's logic: Shaw, an exciting, corn-fed full-back full of running and extreme promise has been on-fire since his side's return to the big time whereas, in contrast, perennial pain in the bottle Cole has been out of sorts for the best part of a year and even the comeback of old mucker Jose can't do anything to boost his fortunes.
Not his literal fortunes. They don't need boosting. Guy's probably got swimmer's ear from Scrooge McDuck-ing it through his mansion(s).
