Stats: Francis Coquelin Has Outdone Chelsea’s Matic And Arsenal Target

Francis Coquelin has had a remarkable season for Arsenal ever since being recalled from a loan at Charlton Athletic in December. He’s been so good that he’s eclipsed both Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic and Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin.

Matic is supposedly the epitome of what it means to be a defensive midfielder and for Coquelin to be outdoing him is some feat.

Arsenal have been linked with Schneiderlin for a long time and the Frenchman was thought to be the ideal solution to Arsenal’s midfield problem. However, Schneiderlin’s comrade Coquelin has managed to plug the whole and do it better.

Even though Coquelin has played less games than the other two, he’s proving that maybe he really can be the long-term solution at 23-years-old. The only aspect of his game that Arsene Wenger will want to see an improvement on is pass completion…
