Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi, who according to reports is set to sign for Liverpool, has previously publicly opposed same-sex relationships on Twitter.

The 17-year-old, who has featured in Nigeria's U23 squad, is clearly very religious and his views on the matter no doubt stem from his beliefs. However, he'll have to reign it in if he's to avoid a backlash when he does start playing in Europe, namely England, where gay rights are quite rightly becoming something society values and respects.

The striker may yet have to wait to play in England, however, as Liverpool reportedly plan to send him on loan to Belgium or the Netherlands while they sort out his work permit.
