Arsenal have a fresh boost in the chase for Wolfsburg's Swiss left-back Ricardo Rodriguez as a release clause in his contract has just become active, according to The Express.
Rodriguez's agent was speaking to an Italian media outlet when he revealed a new clause has come into play.
"Today, Ricardo Rodriguez has a termination clause, which was not there before. You have to respect the contracts," claimed Gianluca Di Domenico.
It's understood that Rodriguez wanted to wait until after the Euros to decide his future, but if Arsenal sense an opportunity and activate the clause, he may be pushed into a decision sooner. It's unclear how much the clause is, but previous speculation points toward the £20million mark.
Rodriguez will no doubt have discussed the possibility of a move to Arsenal with his teammate and friend Granit Xhaka, who has just joined the Gunners himself.
Arsenal are looking to bolster the left side of defence as Kieran Gibbs looks like he may well be heading for the door. Rodriguez has exceptional attacking talent for a full-back, but his defensive qualities are still up for discussion. But at around £20million, perhaps that's a risk worth taking.
