Spanish Sky Sports pundit Guillem Ballague has given an update on a possible big money move for Athletic Bilbao defender Aymeric Laporte. The 21 year old French centre back has been a prominent figure for the basque club since he made his debut aged 18, and Manchester United have maintained an interest throughout the summer.

A move for Sergio Ramos was scrapped earlier in the summer after it emerged that Real Madrid had no intentions of selling the Spanish defender, and so United moved on to different targets. A key one is Laporte, though Ballague says they won't activate his €50 million release clause, speaking to Sky Sports he said, "Laporte is wanted by Bayern Munich. He renewed his contract and now his buy out clause is €50m which Athletic Bilbao will not negotiate. I feel Manchester United do not feel he is worth that much money."

A move could yet be made, but it would need a change in position from Bilbao about the player's price tag, and Luis Van Gaal could move on to other targets in the final throes of the transfer window.
